Sixth Form at Leon Browne Academy - Chapter One

I absolutely hate first days.

What if people find me totally weird and I end up making no friends?

Ugh, I hate this feeling.

I glanced beside me to see my twin brother, Sola, fussing with his hair at the backseat of the car.

“Simi. Are you feeling nervous about your first day?” I’d forgotten my best friend, Dara, was on the line.

I took a pause with bated breath before saying “Me. Nervous? Who told you that?”

“Ignore her, Dara. She’s practically shaking in her boots right now.” Sola, leaned over to say.

“Get off, dude. Yeah, I am. Who isn’t? I mean, everyone is but I’ve got this. After all, these are my peers.”

I heard her laughing on the other end of the line “You are rambling. Girl, get a grip. You’ve got this.”

I sighed loudly in response.

“I’m absolutely, irrevocably, indubitably, and quite terribly sure that today would be a total breeze for you. I’ve run out of adjectives, else I could’ve gone on.”

“Thanks, a lot for hyping me up.”

“Hey, you did the same for me when I moved into my uni dorm. It’s time to repay the favour. Besides, you’ve got your other half, Sola. You guys totally have each other’s backs. You’ll be fine.”

“Yeah. yeah, yeah. Sola’s a lost cause though. He thinks he’ll be Mr Popular in sixth form like he was back in high school.”

“When you look as good as I do, it’s inevitable,” he said smugly.

“Ugh. He’s so full of himself.”

She’s giggling on the other end.

“Babe, I’ve got to go. I need to catch the bus to campus. We’ll connect later today, yeah.”

“Yeah. Have a wonderful time in your classes, genius. Toodle-ooo.”

“Thanks a lot. You too. Toodle-ooo” she says in response before we both hung up.

“You both are dorks.”

“Oh, shush it.”

“Make me.”

“What are we, five?”

“Mister and Miss Agbaje, we’ve arrived at Leon Browne Academy.” our family driver, Mr Williams announces as the car rolled to a stop at the gravel parking lot.

“Lord, please help me.” I whispered quietly as I mentally prepared to brace my reality for the next two years.

Dearest Gentle Readers,

How are you?

Like Simi, have you ever felt nervous on a first day? Not necessarily at school. It could be at work, or an event. Tell me about it in the comments.

I've been there and I know how it feels. We've got this. You've got this

I left a gift for you guys on the Catalog. It's a free zine to get to know the characters.

Cheers, Anike.
